Explore
Ephesus
one
of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World before
strolling through a
Train Museum
on
this family excursion.
From Kusadasi, you travel north to Ephesus,
passing the Byzantine fortress at Selcuk and
the ruins of the Temple of Artemis. The
drive to the House of the Virgin Mary is
long and winding but with great vistas of
the valley.
Ephesus - Enter through the Magnesia Gate
and begin a slow, downhill walk with your
guide into the ruins of this Roman
provincial capital. Your route takes you
past the Odeon Theater, the Celsus Library,
the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of
Trajan and the Great Theater. The theater
had seating for 24,000, which was the site
where it is believed St. Paul preached to
the Ephesians, and is used today for a local
spring festival.
Camlik
Steam Locomotive Museum - The largest locomotive museum in
Turkey accommodates 31 steam
locomotives
from all over the world including those once used by Ottoman &
Turkish Rail - there are no diesel or electric engines. In this
open-air setting, take time to wander around the displays of
locomotives; all engines carry an identification plate in
English.
NOTE: This excursion involves walking over relatively uneven
surfaces and cobblestones and can be slippery when wet.
Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, water and a hat are
recommended.
